History of St. Louis

Th French trader Pierre Laclede of fur established St. Loius in the year 1764. St. Louis as a place of trade close to the convergence of the Missouri, Illinois and Mississippi rivers. Subsequently the settlement grew in under Spanish and French rule, blending many features of European culture. Louisiana Purchase deal changed the time in history and resulted in American migrants traveling to further westward. Old Cathedral (Basilica of St Louis, King)

At the southwest of the Gateway Arch, stands the Old Cathedral. It was constructed in 1831. After the fire mishap which took place in the Old Cathedral, the church still exists in the original form. Old Courthouse

Walk towards the right side of the Market Street and you will see a big, dome-shaped building known as Old Courthouse. The Old Courthouse is a pivotal part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial Park. It was constructed in the mid-1800 and has witnessed many crucial trials which include the Suit by Dred Scott to emancipate the slaves.
